GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed roofing shingles in NJ

Herts Roofing & Construction is GAF Certified, Owens Corning Preferred and CertainTeed Certified. That means we install all three of the biggest shingle brands to each manufacturer's own standards, and you get to choose the shingle and color you like instead of whatever one brand a roofer happens to sell. Every replacement is backed by our 15-year workmanship warranty, on top of the manufacturer's warranty.

One roofer, all three major brands

Most roofing companies are tied to one manufacturer. Being certified by GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed lets us give you a straight comparison and install whichever one fits your house, your neighborhood and your budget. All three make architectural (dimensional) shingles that look and last far better than old 3-tab shingles.

  1. GAF Timberline HDZGAF's main architectural shingle. Its LayerLock design gives a much wider nailing area, which makes it easier to nail in exactly the right spot on every shingle.
  2. Owens Corning DurationKnown for the SureNail strip, a reinforced fabric band across the nailing zone that helps the shingle grip the nails and hold down in high wind.
  3. CertainTeed LandmarkA two-layer laminated shingle with a heavy, dimensional look. Landmark Pro is the thicker, more premium version of the same shingle.
Before you choose

Which shingle brand is best?

Honestly, all three make good architectural shingles, and the differences between them are smaller than the difference between a good installation and a bad one. Most homeowners end up choosing on color and look, then on which warranty options are available. The things that decide how long a roof really lasts are the parts you never see: solid decking, ice and water barrier at the eaves and valleys, proper flashing and enough attic ventilation.

How we help you pick

We show you colors from all three brands, explain which warranty each one comes with on your roof, and give you a written price for each if you want to compare. Still deciding between shingle types? Read our guides on 3-tab shingles and asphalt vs architectural shingles, or book a free inspection.

Shingle questions

Which shingle brand is best: GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed?

All three make good architectural shingles, and we install all three, so we have no reason to push one. Most people choose on color and look first, then on the warranty options. Installation quality matters more than the brand name.

Does using a certified contractor affect my warranty?

Every shingle comes with the manufacturer's standard product warranty. The extended system warranties, which can cover more of the roof for longer, are only offered through contractors credentialed by that manufacturer, and usually require the manufacturer's matching underlayment, starter and ridge shingles. We tell you which options apply to your roof before you sign.

How long do architectural shingles last in New Jersey?

On a well-ventilated roof, architectural shingles commonly last 20 to 30 years. Attic ventilation, moisture and heavy tree cover make a big difference, which is why we check them on every replacement.

What warranty does Herts give on a new roof?

Every roof replacement is backed by our 15-year workmanship warranty, on top of the shingle manufacturer's warranty.

Do you also install metal and flat roofs?

Yes. Most homes get architectural shingles, but we also install metal roofs and flat roofs, including TPO, EPDM and modified bitumen.
