Finished deck, stone steps and green vinyl siding on a Westfield NJ home
November 5, 2026

In 2024 our crew worked on one Westfield, NJ home from top to bottom. We replaced the roof in April, built new stone steps and a new back deck in May, and re-sided the house over the summer, finishing in August. One crew and one company handled all of it, so the homeowners never had to line up separate contractors. Here is how the job went.

After: the new deck, stone steps and green vinyl siding on the side of the house.

Roof: full tear-off, solid decking, new shingles

We started with the roof. The old shingles and flashing came off down to the wood so we could see what the roof was really sitting on, instead of guessing.

On one section the old boards were not worth saving, so we opened it up to the rafters and put down new plywood before any underlayment went on. A new roof is only as good as the deck it is nailed to.

With the deck solid, the roof went back on with new underlayment and gray architectural shingles.

Stone steps and a new back deck

Next came the back of the house. We built new steps faced with stone veneer and topped with gray stone treads, then built a new pressure-treated pine deck off the back door with white railings. The steps and the deck were planned together, so the top step lines up with the deck and the door.

Siding: new house wrap and vinyl lap siding

Over the summer we re-sided the house. The old siding came off, and we fixed the framing where it needed it, including one wall opening that we reframed. The walls were wrapped in house wrap so water that gets behind the siding drains out instead of soaking into the wood. Then the new green vinyl lap siding went on.
